Advanced Neutron Instrumentation at FRM-II

The construction of the new German high flux neutron source FRM-II is finished and FRM-II is waiting for its licence to start nuclear operation. With the beginning of the routine operation 22 instruments will be in action, including 5 irradiation facilities and 17 beam tube instruments, most of them use neutron scattering techniques. Additional instruments are under construction. Some of these ...

The New German Neutron Source Frm Ii

The new research reactor of the Technische Universität München will provide the German needs of neutrons for the beginning of the next century. High intensities of thermal neutrons are provided by a particular densely packed core of highly enriched uranium and are extracted by 12 beam apertures. The low thermal power of 20 MW allows the positioning of a D2 cold source at a maximum of the therma...

SPHERES, Jülich's high-flux neutron backscattering spectrometer at FRM II.

SPHERES is a third-generation neutron backscattering spectrometer, located at the 20 MW German neutron source FRM II and operated by the Jülich Centre for Neutron Science. It offers an energy resolution (fwhm) better than 0.65 μeV, a dynamic range of ± 31 μeV, and a signal-to-noise ratio of up to 1750:1.

Adopting Nisle Unified Formulation to the K0 – Naa Standardization Method for Routine Analysis at Gharr-1

A neutron activation analysis method using the ko – NAA standardization method based on Nisle unified formulation has been adopted for routine elemental analysis at GHARR – 1 Centre. The governing equations of this formulation has been discussed and compared to current formulations. For a simplified but effective and user friendly formulation with a short turnaround time, EPIN values were tabul...
